The following statement was just posted to Twitter and Facebook by the Patrick Hughes campaign and he is claiming his first campaign contribution check in 2010 will be to a Big Government Democrat:
No, seriously, my first check of 2010 is going to Bart Stupak who may have just declared open war. http://is.gd/5ueUt Balls. Of. Steel.
For those of you who do not know who Rep. Stupak is, he is the author of the amendment not allowing tax payer dollars to be used for abortion. That amendment allowed HR 3962 (Obamacare) to pass the House. This bill still contained the Public Option and the government takeover of our healthcare system. Stupak is a big government Democrat who also voted for the Stimulus Bill that only stimulated government growth.
Why would Patrick Hughes think it is a good idea to give money to a Big Government Democrat that supports the government takeover of our healthcare system? How can he claim to even be a conservative? What real principles does Patrick Hughes stand for? Why should anyone support a candidate who wants to help keep big government politicians in office?
It is time for a Contract With Illinois. Pledge to vote only for those candidates who stand up for the Constitution. Ask your friends, neighbors and other candidates throughout the state to do the same. It is time we stop electing fake conservatives.
UPDATE: The Hughes campaign has now posted the following apologies on twitter and facebook.

That last tweet was not from me. It was placed in my Twitter stream by accident. I do not intend to give money to any Democrats!

@davesmith3 Sorry. Lines got crossed somewhere and a tweet was placed into my stream from another account. I oppose Obamacare. All of it.

Again, I want to say that somehow my account feed crossed with a different account last night. Bart Stupak will not get a check from me ever
