Debt Ceiling Increase Shows Failed Leadership
Lake County Tea Party Calls Increase Irresponsible and Hypocritical

Contact:

(Round Lake, IL – August 3, 2011) Lake County Tea Party today called the deal to raise the U.S. debt ceiling and any increase in deficit spending “a failure in leadership.” The Lake County Tea Party maintains that the administration will not be able to successfully stabilize the economy through greater debt.

Tea Party Chairman Lennie Jarratt recalled a statement by then-Senator Barack Obama in March, 2006, during a previous debate on raising the debt ceiling. “Senator Obama stated that “the fact that we are here today to debate raising American’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.’” Jarratt pointed to the irony that the country’s debt has multiplied under the Obama Administration. He noted that the Tea Party is committed to educating voters on the virtues of fiscally responsible government at all levels and that “robbing Peter to pay Paul” is irresponsible.

Lake County Tea Party is a grassroots organization that was formed to communicate to government that people are “tapped out, tired of it, and not going to sit idly by while they do business as usual,” said Jarratt. Besides advocating for taxpayers and constitutional right, the Lake County Tea Party has been working to fight corruption in all areas of government. Lake County Tea Party invites all area residents to join them, and welcomes any contact regarding the organization’s activities and positions on issues. Please call the Lake County Tea Party at (847) 302-3985.

About Lake County Tea Party

Established in 2009 and headquartered in Round Lake Beach, Lake County Tea Party is a grassroots organization working to restore fiscal sanity to all levels of government and to support the U.S.
Constitution.

Lake County Tea Party Condemns New York Times for Column
Tea Party NOT Terrorists

(Round Lake, IL – August 3, 2011) Lake County Tea Party takes strong issue with today’s column in the New York Times, “Tea Party’s War on America.” Columnist Joe Nocera characterizes the Tea Party as “terrorists” who have “waged jihad,” who wear “suicide vests” and who have “gleeful willingness to destroy America’s full faith and credit.”

Lake County Tea party member Bonnie Quirke noted, “Last winter when Congresswoman Gabriella Gifford was shot, there were widespread accusations in the media blaming conservatives such as Sarah Palin for the attack. President Obama soon urged that politics in America adopt a more civil tone. Where’s the civil tone now?”

Contrary to the statements in the New York Times, Lake County Tea Party is committed to educating voters on the virtues of fiscally responsible government at all levels. The organization is also committed to a free market economic system to restore jobs and prosperity to communities. Lake County Tea Party has also been working to fight corruption and felonious activity at all levels of government.

Lake County Tea Party chairman Lennie Jarratt welcomes all area residents to contact the Tea Party if they have questions about the organization’s activities or positions on issues. Please call the Lake County Tea Party at (847) 302-3985.

By Paul Mitchell

The Cost of Corruption – This is not something you will read for fun. But it’s something you must read, as a parent or taxpaying citizen. It’s a sordid story about crime and corruption where anyone would least expect to find it: In a suburban elementary school district.

In response to Freedom of Information Act requests, activists of the Lake County Tea Party organization have received over 300 pages of emails. The tale they tell is grim.

“Don’t Let Them Turn Us In” – The April 5th election was a hard-fought race in which five candidates (two incumbents and three challengers) were vying to fill three seats. The two incumbent candidates were strongly pro-union: Noting that the three challengers had been linked on the Lake County Tea Party website, incumbent candidate Mary Garcia wrote, “I think that all members of both Unions should be apprised of this information… There will be no collective bargaining with those 3 on the board. I am very afraid that Sue and I will not have the funds necessary to fight a ‘party’.” This email, sent to D46 Superintendent Ellen Correll, Assistant Superintendent Lynn Barkley, union leaders Christine Wilson and Diane Elfering, and fellow incumbent candidate Sue Facklam, was sent, like virtually all of the information we have, from Garcia’s email account in District 30 (Wed., Feb. 23rd, 11:34 AM), where Garcia works as a teacher and is president of the teachers’ union. Campaign fundraising activity like this, using D30 public resources have already landed Garcia in front of a review board scheduled to meet Monday, May 2nd.

In another telling email, Facklam, a voter registrar, writes about registering high school students to vote, and giving them gift cards: “Don’t let them turn us in; gifts to register to vote is probably illegal! I did offer Erika [Garcia’s 18-year-old daughter] more gift cards if she can gather up more friends!” (Wed., March 2nd, 10:14 AM to Mary Garcia at her D30 account.) It is a felony to offer remuneration to anyone for voting or registering to vote.

“Lie and pay me cash” – The emails reveal evidence of extensive contributions, expenditures, and in-kind contributions that, by law, ought to have triggered formation of a campaign committee, and been reported to the State Board of Elections. Garcia and Facklam’s campaign manager, Alex Finke, in one of the more egregious examples of their efforts cloak their campaign in secrecy, wrote, “Anything you spend counts towards the 1999.99 that you and Mary would be allowed to spend. The only way around it, would be to lie and pay me cash. Then I could claim that I am volunteering for you.” (Mon., March 7th, 3:55 PM, to Sue Facklam.)

The Superintendents Get Involved – D46 Superintendent Ellen Correll, who receives a compensation package worth over $200,000 per year to educate students, evidently spent quite a bit of her compensated time on election activities: “Mary Garcia is wondering how many signs or flyers you would take?” (Ellen Correll, on her D46 email account, to North Chicago D187 Superintendent Douglas Parks and to Mary Garcia on her D30 email account, Thurs., Mar. 10th, 3:24 PM.) As a custodian of federal and state education funds, Correll is prohibited by law from participating in political activity of any kind.

It’s important to recognize that this is not an article about politics. And it barely scratches the surface. This is not about whose policies are best and whose are wrongheaded. It’s about how elected officials and employees of School District #46, the elementary school district in Grayslake, Illinois, have abused their positions and their access to benefit themselves at taxpayers’ expense, and at the expense of the children entrusted to them.

Walsh to Bean: How is Spending a Trillion Dollars Being Fiscally Conservative?
(Lake Zurich, Ill)–

“For moderates like myself who are fiscally conservative, this is a win,”–Rep. Melissa Bean, The Daily Herald, March 20. Link

A moderate who votes her party not her district? A fiscal conservative who votes to spend a trillion dollars of money we don’t have for something 8th district families don’t want?

This “win” she refers to will be paid for with $569.2 billion in new taxes on American families and businesses. “Is that what winning looks like to you?” asks her Republican challenger Joe Walsh. “For Rep. Bean to invoke the phrase ‘fiscally conservative’ in reference to this government takeover of health care indicates she doesn’t know what those words mean,” Walsh said.

First, there is the $52 billion in taxes on businesses that do not provide what the government deems “acceptable” or “affordable” insurance for workers. Perhaps Rep. Bean can explain to us if this would be considered “moderate” or “fiscally conservative”?

Then, there is the new tax on unearned income (dividends, capital gains, investments, etc.) aimed at the “wealthy” families making above $250,000 a year that will do nothing but promote entrepreneurs not to invest. Does this qualify as “moderate” of “fiscally conservative”?

And, there are the new health care taxes that include: $60.1 billion on health insurers, $27 billion on drug producers and importers, and $20 billion on medical device producers and importers. How do you think $107.1 billion in new taxes on an industry that currently makes up 1/6 of our economy will bode well for job growth? Innovation? Would Rep. Bean term these job-killing, innovation-stunting tax hikes “moderate” or “fiscally conservative”?

Throughout history we have learned if you want less of something tax it, if you want more of it subsidize it. Apparently, Congress wants less jobs because the taxes on business owners are expected to result in lower wages, fewer hours and shipping jobs overseas. Just ask the 130 economists who petitioned President Obama last Thursday not to pass the bill for fear of massive job loss.

“According to the Illinois Policy Institute, Illinois may lose as many as 169,000 jobs as a direct result of Obamacare. If that’s what winning looks like to Rep. Bean then I shudder to think what she considers losing,” Walsh said.

In fact, the only winners in this story are the politicians. By expanding the reach of government, and thereby expanding their control over people’s lives when it comes to something as critical as health care, they will have created more dependency. Democrat dependency, since no Republicans voted for the bill.

612,000 Illinois citizens, many of whom are 8th district residents, will see their health insurance premiums increase by $2,300. They don’t win.

121,722 Illinois seniors, many of whom are 8th district residents, will feel the impact of $500 billion in Medicare cuts. They don’t win.

And neither do future generations of Americans, including the children of 8th district families, who former CBO director Douglas Holtz-Eakin predicts will be left to finance more than $562 billion in spiraling federal debt over the next ten years alone.

This bill is a loser for Illinois and, for it, Melissa Bean should suffer the same fate in November.

Higher taxes, lower wages, fewer jobs, more debt. Four reasons why we couldn’t afford this health care bill and we can’t afford Melissa Bean in Congress.
